Children’s Project – Falmer High School, Brighton, UK: November 2007

Circular Sounds was invited to run a five day programme with 26 children between the ages of 11 and 14 with special behavioural and learning needs. The programme was to complement school activities around themes of Emotional Literacy and to provide tools for the children to use in managing their own behaviour. Each day began with games and play activities, leading into a full group guided imagery followed by creative activities which led to a public presentation on Day Five in front of family, teachers and friends. The children became increasingly adept at managing themselves and developed new friendships, skills and confidence. The final performance was a joyous event incorporating music, text and art work created by the group during the week and allowed every member of the group to shine.

The workshop was a great success and brought about some very positive changes in behaviour in a short space of time. It had many long-term benefits of improving self- confidence, developing a child’s knowledge of his abilities and strengths, formed strong friendships and improved motivation to achieve similar success in the future. As a professional working with traumatised and troubled children I cannot recommend this workshop highly enough

Learning Support Assistant (LSA) Training Day – Falmer High School, Brighton, UK: March 2008

This was a one day training designed to raise self-awareness in LSA’s in order to help them manage difficult situations. The day focussed on fostering skills around listening, communication and emotional awareness, using creativity and games to encourage confidence in the classroom environment. 15 LSA’s participated and at the end of the day four large mandalas had been created and all felt they had become much closer as a group.

I especially remember the chair game. I remember the laughter. Is nice to act silly and carefree for a few minutes.
Sue Carey, LSA Falmer High

(The workshop) showed me its ok for me to “have” feelings and show them.
